SNOW removal from a roof of a house, good or naughty?

I am getting conflicting advise on removing Snow from the roof of my house. Some have told me that the Snow creates too much pressure for the roof and must be removed. This sounds reasonable because in Minnesota we can acumulate up to 3 feet of Snow on the roofs over the winter. Others have told me that removing the Snow also removes a layer of insulation that the Snow creates by being there. This also sound plausible and I would hate to have to spend more dough heating this place cause its expensive!! What do you think leave it or start shoveling?
Answer: Both I will try to explain. Snow up to a point is good for your heat bill as it does add a insulating factor but there can be a point where there is to much Snow. How much is to much, pay attention to other peoples roofs that are around yours if some start taking Snow done maybe its time for yo to do the same. Also the almost all roofs in MN have been built with a Snow load factor in, to support the extra weight. If the Snow gets to be more than 2' thick over the entire roof I would consider removing some of it. Hope this helps my fellow Minnesotan.

How do you get SNOW not to stick on your SNOW plow?

I have a fisher Snow plow for my F-250 and some of the pant has warn off. I was wondering if they make a product to stop the Snow from sticking. I also bought it used and someone decided to paint it the same color with a spray can. Even with light Snow it sticks to the plow, and that stinks because i plowing then i put my plow down to back drag and i have to back drag again because the Snow comes off when i put it down. Thanks.
Answer: A quick fix would be to spray it with a teflon spray. Not silicon that wont work. City plows use a better paint ,call and ask them what they use.

Ive been checking my local weather recently and through tonight its supposed to be "Snow showers". Whats the difference between Snow showers, Snow, and light Snow?
Answer: Snow implies a constant falling of Snow over time from a large storm system. A Snow shower, like a rain shower, results from a small passing system that is causing precipitation (Snow or rain). It's short in duration (less than about 20 minutes) and it passes fairly quickly. And, the resulting precipitation from a Snow shower can vary in intensity. In the case of light Snow, you're looking at like an inch or two an hour. Moderate is like 3-6 inches in an hour. And, heavy is 6+ inches in an hour. And, as a general rule of thumb, rainfall is a factor of 8 to 10 times less than Snow accumulation. That is, 0.10 inches of rain will get you about 0.8 - 1.0 inches of show.

I will be going to big bear this coming weekend and if they require Snow chains how many are you supposed to put on. Do you put them on all 4 tires or do you put them on 2 tires if your vehicle is not 4 wheel drive.
Answer: Chains are required on each drive tire, typically the 2 front ( for FWD ) or 2 rear ( for RWD ) tires - check your owners manual for information on installing chains on your specific vehicle - some vehicles require special Type S tire chains due to limited clearance - using any other chains can cause SEVERE damage to your car if it requires Type S chains. A 4X4 with adequate Snow tires will be allowed to continue without chains in most conditions. Semi-Trucks must install a pair of Drag Chains on one axle of the trailer in addition to chains at least one wheel on each side on all driving axles.

Any tricks to keep the heavy wet SNOW from getting impacted in a SNOW thrower?

I went to go use my Snow thrower and the Snow is to heavy/wet. It keeps getting impacted after only clearing about 5 feet of Snow. So I stop, dig out the Snow and try again only to fail. I gave up and just shoveled (ouch my back). Anybody know any good tips to keep the Snow from impacting?
Answer: Other than using Pam or a similar spray …and keeping the chute at more of a 20% angle rather than a 35-45% that is about it. The wet Snow is the worst ………..we should all move to Arizona

How does the percentage chance of rain or SNOW work when forecasting the weather?

Some times you see that there is a 50% chance of Snow or rain, but say theyre forecasting 3 inches of Snow. It is not very likely that there is a 50% chance 3 inches of Snow or no Snow. If the forecast is for the next day, its pretty likely that it will Snow some amount, but it may only be 1 inch. This is an exaggerated example, but it was just to show you what Im asking. How is the percentage chance of rain/Snow supposed to be interpreted?
Answer: It's supposed to be interpreted like this: for any one place in the forecast area, with forecast conditions like this, that spot will receive measurable rain or Snow 50% of the time. It's a combination of how likely it will be to rain or Snow in the forecast area, and how much of the area will be covered. Forecasts of precipitation amount are much more difficult than forecasting whether it's going to rain/Snow at all, and Snow forecasting is even harder, so if they forecast 3 inches and it Snows 1 inch, don't be too hard on them..
