NATWEST ONLINE BANKING card reader. Did anyone else receive one?
If so Have you used yours yet?
The letter said i would not be able to access my account without it, but actually I havent needed it.
Answer: Yes, I`ve had mine for about 6 weeks now.
It seems that they are delaying there original plans, which required the card reader to do most things in accordance with your online banking.
At the moment, the only time you need it is when you set up a new payment through online banking.
I think at the moment they are having logistics problems getting everything to work, the card readers were supposed to go out to everyone at the same time, but this hasn't happened, and there are still people who don't have them.
Another big stumbling block is that bank cards over 2 years old don't actually work in them! They have a different chip on the card, and the card reader doesn't recognise them - I had this problem with my original bank card, but thankfully a later card I had worked with the reader. You don't actually need to use the card thats linked to the account your making the payment from, you can use any of your Natwest bank cards (although they cleverly neglected to tell people that and I only found out by giving them a ring).

Can we opt out of the Natwest Bank online banking card reader system?
The whole thing -- Card, Card reader, Card PIN -- on top of the existing pin numbers and login details now makes the online banking system with NatWest a painful experience. I have accounts in 3 countries, including a small business account at NATWEST and a personal account at another UK bank that has decided NOT to use the card reader & pin system. None of the other banks whether in the UK, US or France require anywhere NEAR the hassle that this new system requires in order to pay bills. Just to amend a payee (for example to include the new invoice number rather than the one from last time), you have to use the card reader system. Since I travel abroad quite frequently, and do all our banking via the online system, carrying around an easy to lose card reader and yet another (easy to lose) card makes banking with NatWest a lot less attractive. Weve spoken with our banker who says theyve had a fair number of complaints, and we are now looking at switching our account. Anyone else?

Answer: If someone had hijacked your a account, you could access the site as normal, but when you entered your password, you would receive an notice that the user-name/password were not valid. If the website is down, you would either not be able to access the log-in screen, or receive a message that the site was unavailable. The site does not have regular downtime. If the site was down for scheduled maintenance, they probably had a notice on the site for about a week in advance.
As of 9:37pm Eastern Time (US), July 8, 2007, the site is unavailable.

NATWEST ONLINE BANKING - Does anyone else have problems with logging in?
I frequently, when logging in to my online account, get told I have entered the wrong details, even though I know I have not entered the wrong details (I always take time and care to enter my log in details).
I end up having to re-activate my account on a regular basis because on the second failed attempt I get blocked. This is now just becoming a nuisance.
Does anyone else experience this with Natwest online banking. Any suggestions why I keep getting blocked for failed login attempts. Ive checked with Natwest and there is no suspicious activity going on.

Answer: It means you're £10 overdrawn. you have borrowed £10 from the bank. When you put £10 back in your bank the balance will be zero. Then whatever else you put in after that will be as normal.

Ive just set up a direct debit mandate to my NatWest account. The company says my status is "registered" for the direct debit. However, when I go into online banking, it says that there are no direct debits to view. I got two emails from this bank on an email address that I dont usually give out, especially not to places like a bank, saying something about how security is their top priority and asking me to log in (I dont have an account as far as I know) and "follow the directions on the screen". What exactlys going on? I dont use Natwest banking and the bank I use has my gmail account.
Answer: I operate a spam engine for a large company and this is without any doubt SPAM. what has happened here is that you email address has been harvested and added to an automated list ..you will almost certainly find that if you hover you mouse over the link to login that the link is not going to natwest but someone's website looking to take genuine customers password and credentials.
dont worry, just take the advice of never replying to these emails and you will find that these mails will stop as the next list of targets is created.

How do I cancel direct debit using NATWEST ONLINE BANKING?
There is one mobile phone insurance company that was sort of tricked me to buy an insurance, and took my money again after a year even after they told me they wouldnt take any money again from my account. How can I block this company from taking my money again through direct debit in the future?
Answer: Call NatWest on this number 020 8804 4892 (Option 2 - 24/7 Customer services) and tell them there's been an unauthorised transaction on your account and that you want them to issue a chargeback against that transaction.
Briefly explain the situation to them and let them know in no uncertain terms that you're adamant that that company should not have taken the money from your account. If the NatWest advisor you speak with seems hesitant or tries to fob you off, start quoting the Direct Debit guarantee to them...
"If the originator or the bank/building society makes an error, the customer is guaranteed a full and immediate refund of the amount paid."

That should cut right through whatever rubbish lines they try to feed you. Once NatWest agree to issue the chargeback, I'd actually take it one step further and tell them that since this company tricked you into buying the insurance in the first place and that since you're so disgusted with them trying to steal money from you again, you want NatWest to issue chargebacks against all the transactions ever made from your account to this company.
NatWest probably won't issue chargebacks against the previous transactions without you sending a strongly worded letter to them but you never know. You may get lucky and they may just issue all the chargebacks, especially if there have been more complaints about that company from other NatWest customers.
I'd advise you NOT to cancel the direct debit with that company while NatWest sort out your chargeback(s). Wanting to close the open payment channel you have with that company is a human nature reaction but it's actually a bad idea, a very bad idea (that's what NatWest will use to get the money back to your account!) and could seriously delay you getting your money back or even mean you won't see that money ever again.
As soon as you speak with NatWest, you'll have nothing to worry about by leaving the direct debit open. In the unlikely case that that company tries to take more money from your account in the interim period, NatWest will either stop the transaction themselves or refund the money to your account right away with no questions asked.
Once you have your money back, then yes, cancel the dodgy direct debit, by all means. To do that, log on to Natwest online banking --> Payments --> Direct Debits --> click on the direct debit entry for that company --> click 'Cancel Direct Debit' button.
