Where can I get seat plans for East Coast and SCOTRAIL trains?
Im going to Aberdeen from England with a change at Edinburgh and then onward to Kyle of Lochalsh.
Id love to know where to find seat plans for East Coast trains and Scotrail - I have impaired mobility and need to be on the aisle and fairly near the door.
Ive had no success with search engines.
Answer: Train companies don't usually publish seating plans. However when you book your tickets in advance
- they will be cheaper if you do - ask to reserve seats and state your mobility problems as all trains
have special seats suitable for disabled people. If you are in a wheelchair or just require assistance in boarding and with your luggage, this will be provided as long as you request it a minimum of 24 hours in advance. You may also qualify for a disabled persons railcard which will give you a 34% discount on all your rail tickets.

Are dogs allowed on SCOTRAIL trains?
Answer: Scotrail allows dogs to accompany able-bodied passengers in Sleeper services subject to a charge for a heavy duty clean, and the booking must be either Standard Class with two people travelling together, otherwise a Solo supplement is payable for exclusive use of a twin-berth cabin. Booking for all dogs travelling in Sleepers should be made at least 48 hours in advance.
By-law 16 allows the train company to refuse carriage or entry to any animal. If a customer objects to the presence of an animal, the owner must move it to another part of the train or put it in a suitable container in the guard's van/luggage van where available. When dogs are carried in the guard's van/luggage van (other than those in a container) they must be secured with collar and chain and properly muzzled.

Railcard or SCOTRAIL Season Ticket?
Hello, Im going to be going into Glasgow a lot this year and was wondering what would be more worth it, a 16-25 railcard or a season ticket which only lasts a month.
Most days Ill be going in at 9am but it says if its before 10am I have to pay £12, could I not just buy a normal ticket then instead of showing my railcard? But the Scotrail is like £80 for only a month.
Which one is more worth it? Does Railcard even cover Scotland?
Answer: The 16-25 railcard is national and covers all rail journeys in England, Wales and Scotland. Obviously it offers you immense savings if for example you are travelling from Glasgow to London. iI buying an ordinary ticket before 10am weekdays is cheaper than using the railcard, do so

How to becoming a volunteer for a railway preservation?
Hi,
My dream job is to work with the trains such as onboard staff and crew with say first Scotrail or even Virgin, however to gain experience in that type of role i am thinking about going down the voluntry side to get an insight and experience to put on my CV.
One of the closest voluntry line to FIFE i believe is the Bo Ness Preservation Scociety. Do i require certain qualifications, skills and experience and is there on board roles such as hospitality assistants or even entry level gaurd jobs.
Answer: The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway is operated by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society.
Like all preserved railways, they rely heavily on volunteers and i am sure that they would welcome you. The following clip is from their web site. They operate both steam and diesel locomotives and the experience gained may help with gaining a position with a main line railway and in any case you will get some enjoyment on the way.

SCOTRAIL/National Rail Season Tickets question?
I start university in a few weeks and as im commuting from home im looking for ways to save a bit of money in train fares. Ive been looking at season tickets but the information is very vague, it only says unlimited travel on your selected route, but it doesnt say weather its unlimited free or unlimited discounted travel, could someone enlighten me?
Answer: A season ticket gives you unlimited travel for its duration on the route concerned. It isn't free travel as you have paid for the ticket in advance (at a discounted rate compared with buying a ticket for every separate journey), but you do not need to buy another ticket for that journey. You are perhaps confusing it with a 16-25 railcard which gives you discounted travel across the whole network/

Bad experience with SCOTRAIL yesterday, what do you think they will say?
Well heres my complaint:
Dear Sir/Madam,
On the 28th of January 2009 I travelled from Pollockshields East Station at approximately 4.30pm to Glasgow Central.
While on the train, with my younger sister and my 10 month old daughter, I purchased two tickets (an Adult £1.75 and a Child single £0.90). When we reached Central Station I had a number of bags and a pram to carry as I approached the make-shift barrier. The Scotrail ticket guard placed his hand on my chest and pushed me backwards while I was holding my baby daughter and the pram. I was highly offended by this and responded with "Do not touch me." He grunted at me to present my ticket - I had to drop all of my luggage and hunt. While I did so a number of other ticket gaurds proceeded to surround me and pull the barrier across the length on the platform, preventing anyone from coming in and out. I was embarrassed to say the least as other passengers had a wait in a large que.
The ticket guards did not offer to help as I was holding the baby nor did they show any patience. Eventually I was forced to pay for more tickets as I did not have the resources to find the ones Id purchased until I had arrived home.
Is it now standard procedure at Scotrail to intimidate and attempt to humiliate passengers? I was horrified when the ticket gaurd pushed me back by my chest while I was holding a baby. Had I not been surrounded by Scotrail staff I would have rang the police.
Its outrageous that I was treated like a criminal in the presence of two children in the first place. I was ordered to purchase the tickets again from a guard who walked away every time he was called to give me a ticket.
I was then ordered (holding a baby and a pram) to go and get him!!! And it was all for the sake of £2.65. I understand that Scotrail may lose millions of pounds every year with passengers not paying for tickets but when a woman is with a baby and another child they should not be treated like this.
I have seen in the news recently that ticket guards and drivers are regularly assulted by disgruntled passengers. If this is their behaviour then Im not surprised.
I have for many years now used Scotrail to travel between London and Glasgow on the Caledonian sleeper and have never experienced this kind of humiliation.
The whole experience was unnecessary and embarrassing.
Sincerely,
Answer: Don't complain here, make a formal complaint to Scot-rail and the Transport Police as you were assaulted. You should have stood your ground at the time and called for the Police. If there were barriers stopping passengers from exiting you would have had plenty of witnesses.
