What is the best time to see the COMET Holmes from California?
Is special equipment needed, like a telescope, or is it visible to the naked eye?
How long will it be visible?
Is there any other significance to the Comet besides being an exploding Comet?
Also, I read that the reason we cant see the tail is because the tail is actually directly behind it, can anyone corroborate?
Answer: The best time to see Comet 17P Holmes is from two hours after sunset until 4:30 am.
You can see it with the unaided eye - but you have to know where to look for it. The first impression is like a normal star - but when you look again you may see that it is not pin-point sharp, but a bit fuzzy, like an 'out of focus star'. If you have good binoculars with a front lens of 50mm or more and a magnification between 8 and 16 you may see it quite well - including the round patch of light around the nucleus. If you have access to a telescope with more than 5 inches diameter and a magnification of 25 to 100 you may see quite some details.
As a help to find it you may have a look at the link below:

When is the next COMET to pass near earth and will be visible?
Im easily amazed with anything that has to do with space such as seeing planets and seeing a Comet, meteor or anything else. Ive never seen a Comet, and i looked up halleys Comet and it wont be near us til 2061. I want to know if there will be several Comets before then to see?
Answer: Most Comets are one-time visitors to the inner solar system, and can't be predicted in advance. We must wait until they are spotted on the way in, their orbits calculated, and the their passage described. There are several periodic Comets like Halley, but mostly they are not very bright and require a telescope to see. Watch sites like www.space.com and www.skyandtelescope.com for notifications of the arrival of bright Comets.

What fish can go with a COMET goldfish?
We where planning to get other fish for my 1 Comet goldfish because she seems lonley. So what fish can go with a Comet goldfish? And since I feed her goldfish flakes and I add a different kind of fish, what if the fish eats the goldfish flakes?
Answer: Best option, other Comet, shubunkin or common goldfish.
Dont mix them with the round bodied fancy goldfish, the faster swimming slim bodied fish will win the race for food every time.
You are going to need a big tank or a pond for multiple Comet type goldies though.

COMET??????????????????????????????????????
Does anyone know much about this Comet thats meant to be here in Aug/sep? :/
Answer: Well, ..., I believe you're talking about Comet Elenin. See the link below. It should be visible in late September and will peak on October 16th. You'll need to get a pair of 10x50 binoculars to see it. Even though it's closest approach (in October) will be 35 million miles away (yeah, t's not going to hit the earth even by a long shot) from earth it's not going to be that spectacular. So you'll need binoculars to see it.

How is the coma of a COMET produced?
1. The coma is a cloud of particles that the Comet has swept up in its orbital path.
2. Particles in the solar wind get caught in the Comets magnetic field to form the coma.
3. Ices vaporize to become gas that form the coma around the Comet.
4. Rocky material breaks off from the Comet to form the coma.
Answer: ++3. Ices vaporize to become gas that form the coma around the Comet.
"As a Comet approaches the inner Solar System, solar radiation causes the volatile materials within the Comet to vaporize and stream out of the nucleus, carrying dust away with them."

How should I move a COMET Goldfish from a tank to outdoor pond properly?
I have a small-medium sized Comet Goldfish that I got this October. I have a large outdoor pond with 4 somewhat large goldfish and about 3 or 4 black mosquito eater fish. Those fish are currently hibernating under the ice. When spring comes and the pond thaws, how should I make the transition from indoor tank to outdoor pond without killing my fish?
Answer: You want to wait until the water temperature (not the air temps) is 60 degrees (55 is the absolute minimum). This will ensure the temps do not drop for long periods of time below the hibernation temperature. (50).
You will need to bag your fish from the tank (Be sure it is a good size bag). Take him outside and float him in the pond for 20 minutes this will allow for the temperatures to come close. Add 1 cup of pond water to your bag and float him for another 20 minutes. this will allow for the start of the PH difference and the temperatures to be the same. add another cup of water to the bag and allow him to float another 20 minutes. this again will help slowly adjust to any difference in ph. Add another cup of water and float 20 minutes another cup float then gently release your fish into the pond.
Acclamating fish is one of the most important things you need to worry about.
Good luck

What is name of the COMET currently in the sky?
I am a very amateur astronomer but here goes - saw what i thought was a planet not far off the horizon in a south easterly direction at midnight in lincolnshire UK. Decided to have a look through an antique captains telescope i had lying around - saw that it was a Comet with a clear red to blue tail. Would love to know what Comet i have seen - any suggestions?
Answer: There are several FAINT (below naked-eye brightness) Comets visible in the sky, but none that match your description. Generally speaking, colors such as red are not likely to be seen in a Comet visually.

How long does it take for a COMET to grow big?
Im feeding my Comets flakes, pellets and Bloodworms as I was told this variety would make them grow big fast. Have I been informed right and does anyone know how long it takes for a Comet to grow large?
Answer: The warmer the tank the faster their metabolism, meaning they will eat more & grow faster. But they will also not live as long. When you say large do you mean 6 inches or do you mean large like their full size 12-18 inches? A Comet can reach 6 inches in a year or less, and it takes about 3- 5 years for them to reach their full size. provided they have a large enough aquarium ( 30-50 gallons minimum per adult fish) Comets are generally considered pond fish. In order for them to thrive they really need a bigger environment than your average aquarium. Comets are omnivores, try adding some vegetable matter to their diet- Like dark leafy greens, thin sliced cucumber, or even aquatic plants like duckweed & foxtail.

How would I get my COMET goldfish used to the pond outside?
Since its kind of cold, the temperatures would be wayyy different. My Comet goldfish is in a tank right now, so its much warmer. How would I get my fish used to the cold water in the pond? Also, once the fish gets used to the water, would it be able to handle very harsh weather later?
Answer: Introduce the fish to the pond in the summer when the pond is warmer and around the same temp as your tank. Then the pond gradually cools off in Autumn and the fish can adjust to it.
How deep is the pond and how cold is your weather? Goldfish are OK with a bit of ice on the pond as long as it's deep enough. 18" is deep enough if you only get a little ice, but if things really freeze you want about 3ft of water.

How to get COMET bleach cleaner out of clothes?
I had an emergency mess and needed to use Comet bleach cleaner on the counter.. I just saw a few spots that it got on my black shirt. Is there a way to remedy this?
Answer: Hey, it has happened to me, too. Bleach is bleach and the damage is permanent. All you can do is either toss the shirt or buy some RIT dye and dye it black, following directions on the dye label. Some people might say to color the spot with a sharpie, but it won't work well. Best bet is to buy a new shirt and don't use that bleach product anymore. Better to put a little bleach in a sink of water, wet a rag, squeeze it out.
