Do ITV steal the weather forecast from the BBC?
They seem to have the weather forecast a half hour later than BBC One, its always very simplified cartoons, and we are all aware that ITV are strapped for cash.
So, do you think they could be waiting, watching BBC One and then throwing theirs together at the last minute?
Answer: Tell you what, A.A. Have been watching CNN, and their weather forecasts are far different than the Brit. ones - for starters, whereas BBC and ITV tends to have orgasms telling us about the warm temperatures in the 'south east' (meaning London in particular), CNN's 'high temps' - for the same day will be in places like Ipswich, Bristol - and even the north Midlands (Staffordshire, and south Nottinghamshire). Not to sure about the nicking between BBC and ITV - along with the others, but I often wonder if, like the Afghan/Muslim/terrorism propaganda we're bombarded with day in and day out, I also wonder if the 'weather reports' are only on the British channels to make Londoners smile. As I live in London, do enjoy a few more sunny hours than, say, Glasgow - but now trust CNN to give me the real un-Londoncentric 'Up yours, Manchester, Belfast, Inverness' kind of weather!

In general, how accurate is the BBC WEATHER forecasts for the UK?
Both the website and the forecasts on the news. Are they right most of the time, or fairly hit and miss?
Answer: They're not hit and miss these days. After the disastrous "barbecue summer" that was mis-forecast in 2009 they don't bother to go past five days advance predictions any more. Sometimes the weather will misbehave but that's because Nature is always bigger than the most powerful of the Met Office's supercomputers.
Regional forecasts are usually accurate up to three days ahead, but accuracy drops off very quickly after that. If you go to your local area forecast on the BBC web site you'll get an even more accurate forecast.
National weather forecasts are ok on a "national" scale (up to three days) but can be too vague if you try and infer what your local weather will be.
The BBC forecasters are employed by the Met Office (a branch of the MOD) and most private forecasters also get their data from the same source.
For practical reasons the broadcast weather forecasts are not as detailed as the data available to the Met Office can provide. If they were then every broadcast would be half an hour long and sound like the Shipping Forecast.
You can subscribe to very accurate and very localised forecasts directly from the Met Office if it's necessary for particular purposes. Farmers, airports, railways, organisers of expensive outdoor events, builders, oil rigs etc often use this service.

Why is the Met Office forecasting heavy snow for Wales but BBC WEATHER says no snow for wales?
Which one do i believe? thats just weird!!!
Answer: there are many weather model programs.
it's likely that they're using different models.
around here, in Calif, they show satellite views of weather patterns coming in from the Pacific.
it wouldn't be unusual for your weather to come in from the Atlantic.
if you watch, maybe you can see why any storms may, or may not, get to Wales.

for my it h/w i have to find out and describe how weather reporting websites i.e Bbc weather get their info and put it on their site. and if i had a site how could i do and i need to make a plan of how i would do it? please help!!!!
Answer: I would have thought that the answer to this question was obvious and common knowledge...
Most large modern day weather companies have forged an alliance with the four Dragon Kings. As these alliances are costly (BBC offered two fair maidens apiece to each of the four dragons in order to gain their cooperation), smaller weather companies usually just copy what the bigger ones are saying.
Weather balloons used to be the preferred method of communication with the dragons (dragons would leave letters in the balloons saying what weather they were going to create next) but the recent invention of Doppler radar has improved the communication process quite a bit. Doppler works much like a giant telephone, where the dragons can drop by and verbally report what weather they will create next. This new invention has helped to predict weather much more accurately as dragons are atrocious spellers, and their curved claws severely hamper their penmanship (many letters were misread in the past).

Why does the BBC WEATHER map of Britain show England on a different scale to Scotland?
If you look at the map it seems as if the distances between places in England is more than places the same distance apart in Scotland. I appreciate that it depends on the projection used for the map and the curvature of the earth - but why does it seem to be centred on the south of England ?
Answer: Because according to the BBC, Northern affairs are unimportant and Southern affairs are. They claim this is not so by explaining that 'it follows the natural curvature of the Earth'. I personally think this is utter garbage, and is instead the BBC hitting back at Northerners who watch too much ITV (idiots' television).
Hope this helps,
Will

which weather website is more reliable, BBC WEATHER or Accuweather?
Please help me with this. I need to find out the weather for Birmingham tomorrow but they are both saying different things. Is Accuweather good?
Answer: The Met Office is your best choice for reliability.
Accuweather uses the NWS Global Forecast Model as nearly their sole basis for weather forecasting. Since Accuweather is based out of State College, PA in the US. The do not have the local knowledge that anyone at the BBC or the Met Office would have. The other point I like to make is that the forecasters at Accuweather (some are very good) but they are rushed since they are preparing forecasts for areas around the world and often can not spend as much time working with the data as they would like so often they are more dependent on the model. The GFS model is good. However, it does have some bias during the winter and can dramatically be wrong which the forecaster may or may not pick up on for the weather in the UK. Thus, I would turn to the people who know the weather for the UK the best and that is the Met Office.

THE MEDIA EQUATION; New Rules For the Ways We Watch
For the last year, media pundits like me have been running around screaming our heads off about falling skies and collapsing paradigms, and yet as 2011 comes to an end, the sky is still there. But network television - David Carr The Media Equation column holds the inertia that has kept consumers from bolting from traditional content providers is beginning to erode as a new generation remakes media in its own image; contends that even as some of the old truisms in media still pertain, a few new rules are taking shape; offers tips about what to watch for in the new year. Does anyone on here (north of Birmingham, perhaps) suspect the BBC national weather reports are false?
I have an old thermometer outside, nailed to my small greenhouse, and yesterday, it read 23c. But listening to the BBC national weather bulletin knocking off FIVE degrees (for the north-west), adding the beginning of the weekend will be grey got me steaming. It was sunny blue skies throughout the week, and judging from the clear sky now, well have the same over the weekend. Is the grim oop north thing to be preserved at all costs by the Londoncentric media?
Answer: The BBC knows that the Met. office may not be perfect, as someone has said - but I lived in St. Helens a few years ago, and quickly found how odd the BBC acted come the weather. Doubt whether they have it in for the north, but I did cringe when they used to tell us how hot it were in some parts of the UK - there used to be a time/temperature read out on a building in the middle of St. Helens, and one week in summer, the temps. read between 22/25c - but listening to the boys at Shepherds Bush (or wherever it was they were reading the national news in London), it would have been hard to reach 20c - with the 'highest' temperatures being in the 'South-East' - aka 'London'.
Of course, in the real world, it could be said the BBC are hardly 'anti-North' - but would agree with you concerning the chopping and changing of temperatures if some cheeky Northern towns are outshining London.
